How an Australian tiny-house builder became the source AI search cites

Since starting with SEOValley™ in December 2024, an Australian tiny-house builder has more than doubled its top-5 Google rankings. AI answers in Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini now link to it as a source 2,755 times.

RESULTS AT A GLANCE

The builder now holds almost 5,000 top-5 Google positions in Australia, and Google’s AI Overviews link to its pages for 1,991 different searches.

THE CHALLENGE

The client is an established Australian builder of tiny homes, with buyers right across Australia. In December 2024 it had a large site and a useful blog, but only 2,377 keywords in Google’s top 5.

Their buyers research for months before they call: what a tiny home costs, whether council will allow one, and how to build one on a trailer. More of those questions are now answered by AI, inside Google’s AI Overviews and in tools like ChatGPT, and the reader often never clicks a result.

The goal was to rank for the questions buyers ask and become the source AI answers quote and link to.

WHAT WE DID

We ran a structured monthly SEO programme from 18 December 2024, with every task logged and reported each month.

  1. Audit and foundations (month 1). Website evaluation, page speed and mobile checks, a penalty and backlink audit with disavow, competitor analysis, keyword research, and Search Console and Analytics set-up.
  2. On-site fixes. SEO recommendations and rich-snippet (schema) markup applied across the site, so search engines and AI tools can read what each page is about.
  3. Content buyers actually search for. One article and two blogs every month, planned around real buyer questions on cost, council rules, building on a trailer and off-grid living.
  4. Authority building. Monthly link outreach, business and local listings, review sites and promotion of each new piece of content, so other sites point to the client as a trusted source.
  5. Monthly measurement. Ranking, Search Console and links reports every month, with the next month’s plan adjusted to what was working.

These are real buyer questions where an AI answer links to the client as a source:

  • ChatGPT: “Where can I buy a tiny house?” lists the client first among Australian builders.
  • ChatGPT: “What is the largest tiny house?” names the client’s 10 m model as the largest conventional tiny home on wheels it found.
  • Google AI Mode: “tiny homes Australia” and “buy a tiny house” recommend the client as an established turn-key builder.
  • Google AI Overviews: “tiny house floor plans”, “prefab tiny homes” and “small home” link to the client’s models page.
  • Perplexity: “How much do tiny homes cost?” and “How to build a tiny home on a trailer?” cite the client’s blog guides.

When a buyer asks an AI assistant where to buy, the client is in the answer, and in several answers it is listed first.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOUR BUSINESS

Buyers increasingly get their shortlist from an AI answer, not a page of blue links. The businesses that answers quote are the ones that rank for real buyer questions, publish clear expert content and are trusted by other sites.

That is the same work we did here, and we run it for clients in Australia, the UK, the US, the Middle East and Asia. Contact us and we will show you where your business appears in AI answers today, and where your competitors are cited instead.

SOURCES AND HOW WE MEASURED

  • Google rankings: SE Ranking organic history for the client’s domain, Australian database, monthly, December 2024 and October 2026.
  • AI citations and brand mentions: SE Ranking AI Search data for Australia (Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini), snapshot of 1 October 2026.
  • Visits from AI answers are SE Ranking’s estimate, not measured site traffic.
  • Work delivered: SEOValley’s monthly task lists and reports for the campaign, which started on 18 December 2024.
  • The client is not named, to protect their confidentiality. Details are available on request.
