A Home Décor Store Made 75% More Revenue From The Same Number Of Visitors.

An online shop of handpicked Indian décor, run from Jaipur and Los Angeles, had a good website, but fewer than 4 in 1,000 visitors bought. Discounts and free shipping hadn’t helped. We found what stopped people buying, and revenue rose 75.9% in three months.

Where They Started, What We Did, Where They Are Now

Before

Visitors Looked, But Didn’t Buy

Fewer than 4 in 1,000 visitors made a purchase, and discount codes and free shipping hadn’t changed that.

What we did

Asked Customers What Got In The Way

Two years of visitor data, a customer survey, and tests of new wording, pictures and navigation.

Now

Bigger, More Frequent Orders

Revenue rose 75.9% in three months: bigger orders, more purchases and more items per order.

What We Did For This US & India Home Décor Store

The décor store was founded by an American couple who love India and its people. It sources and handpicks decorative pieces from craftsmen and artisans in villages and cities across India. It has warehouses and offices in Jaipur and Los Angeles, and it also gives artisans another way to sell their work and earn more.

The website looked professional and the prices were lower than competitors. Yet fewer than 4 in every 1,000 visitors bought anything. The owners had tried discount coupons and free shipping, but neither made much difference. We had already been running their SEO for more than a year, so we knew the traffic was there.

We studied two years of visitor data, asked customers what made checkout hard, and tested new ideas on the site. Within three months, revenue was up 75.9% even though the number of visitors stayed almost the same.

What Stood In The Way

Visitors Looked But Did Not Buy

The online shop’s conversion rate (The share of visitors who buy) was well under 0.40%.

Discounts Did Not Help

Coupons and free shipping were tried, and the effect was small.

Big Potential Gain

A better conversion rate could lift the whole company’s revenue, so the owners wanted a bolder plan.

Not Enough Insight

They needed a clearer picture of how visitors behaved so they could keep and grow their customer base.

Revenue: Up 75.9% In Three Months

From the client’s own Google Analytics.

Tested What Works

Everything We Did For The Shop

  • Analysed two years of visitor data from Google Analytics
  • Had Google Analytics certified specialists turn that data into clear findings about visitor behaviour
  • Found the barriers that stopped people buying
  • Created a customer survey to learn what made checkout difficult, and got a very strong response
  • Used the answers to improve the overall shopping experience
  • Developed ideas for wording, pictures and navigation together with the client
  • Ran side-by-side (A/B) tests to find weak parts of the site
  • Swapped weak parts for the versions that performed better

What Other Business Owners Can Take From This

Ask Your Customers

A short survey revealed the real checkout problems that discounts had never fixed.

Use Your Own Data

Two years of visitor behaviour showed where people gave up, so effort went where it counted.

Test Before You Decide

Side-by-side tests let the shop keep only the changes that actually sold more.

More visitors cost money. Turning more of the visitors you already have into buyers is often the faster win.

We help online shops sell more, from both search and the visitors they already have.

  • Find out why visitors don’t buy
  • Fix what gets in the way of checkout
  • More revenue without more ad spend
