Since starting with SEOValley in February 2025, a UK online retailer of car lighting and diagnostic parts has grown its organic search visits by a third and its top-5 Google rankings by 49%. AI answers in Google and ChatGPT now link to its pages 1,921 times.

AI-search tracking did not exist in February 2025, so AI figures are shown as they stand today. Search Console keeps 16 months of data, so clicks are compared year on year for September.
THE CHALLENGE
The client is an established UK online retailer of car lighting and diagnostic parts: LED and xenon headlight bulbs, HID conversion kits, original-equipment replacement parts and diagnostic scanners. Its customers are drivers, enthusiasts and garages who know exactly which part they need, or are trying to work it out.
Before we started, the site was losing ground. Its top-5 Google rankings fell from 5,350 in October 2024 to 3,757 in February 2025. At the same time, more of its customers’ questions were being answered by AI: what an H8 bulb is, how to tell if a xenon bulb has failed, which diagnostic tool to buy.
The goal was to win back rankings for the parts customers search for, and to become the source AI answers quote and link to.
WHAT WE DID
We ran a structured monthly SEO programme from 6 February 2025, with every task logged and reported each month.
- Audit and foundations (month 1). Website evaluation, competitor and keyword analysis, a baseline traffic and ranking report, page speed and mobile checks, a penalty check, a backlink audit, a local citation audit and Search Console and Analytics checks.
- On-site fixes. SEO recommendations and rich-snippet (schema) markup for the online store, followed by later re-optimisation of key pages, Search Console reviews and a fix to purchase tracking.
- Content customers actually search for. Two articles, two blogs and two press releases every month, answering real questions about bulb types, xenon and LED upgrades, fault-finding and diagnostic tools.
- Authority building. Monthly link outreach, listings and content promotion, plus regular social posts on Facebook, X, LinkedIn and Instagram, so other sites point to the client as a trusted source.
- Monthly measurement. Ranking, traffic and off-page reports every month, a fresh backlink audit in April 2026 and a mid-month SEO audit, with the next month’s plan adjusted to what was working.
ORGANIC SEARCH VISITS

Redrawn from the client’s Google Analytics 4 data (Organic Search sessions, monthly), exported 11 October 2026. Client name hidden.
Every month from October 2025 to September 2026 had more organic visits than the same month a year earlier. The earlier 12 months include the four months before we started (October 2024 to January 2025), so the comparison does not flatter the result.
GOOGLE RANKINGS

SE Ranking organic history, UK database, August 2024 to October 2026.
The fall stopped in the first month, rankings climbed steadily through 2025, and top-5 positions are now above where they stood before the decline.
CITED BY AI ENGINES
AI answers in the UK link to the retailer’s site 1,921 times, almost all of them in Google’s AI Overviews.
| AI engine (UK) | Links to the site |
|---|---|
| Google AI Overviews | 1,875 |
| ChatGPT | 29 |
| Google AI Mode | 17 |
These are real customer questions where an AI answer links to the client as a source:
- ChatGPT: “How to tell if HID ballast is bad?” and “What is a headlight ballast?” cite the client’s guide to ballast failure and its ballast parts page.
- ChatGPT: “What is the best car diagnostic scanner?” and “What is the best diagnostic scan tool?” cite the client’s comparison of the leading scanner brands.
- ChatGPT: “What are the best HID kits to buy?” lists the client’s own kits among four UK options.
- Google AI Mode: “What are the best HID conversion kits?” recommends the client as a specialist UK supplier, and “How to tell if a xenon bulb is bad?” cites its guide to xenon bulb life.
- Google AI Overviews: “h7 bulbs”, “xenon bulb”, “d1s xenon bulb” and “h11 led bulb” link to the client’s product category pages.
When a driver asks an AI assistant which part to buy or how to fix a fault, the client is one of the sources the answer is built on.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOUR BUSINESS
Online shoppers increasingly ask an AI assistant which product to buy before they visit a store. The retailers that answers quote are the ones that rank for real product questions, publish clear expert guides and are trusted by other sites.
That is the same work we did here, and we run it for clients in Australia, the UK, the US, the Middle East and Asia. Contact us and we will show you where your business appears in AI answers today, and where your competitors are cited instead.
