SEOSouth KoreaGovernment programme500+ websites

A national government programme chose us to grow 500+ business websites on Google.

As part of a government programme to help businesses sell online, we ran SEO for more than 500 websites with no previous SEO. Most of the important keywords reached page one within three months, and 70–80% reached the top 3 by month five.

The short version

Where they started, what we did, where they are now

1Before

Starting from zero, with a deadline

None of the sites had done SEO before. Any site that missed its targets within six months would lose government support.

2What we did

A plan for every single site

Technical fixes, page changes, new site structures, content and quality links, with keywords chosen for each site.

3Now

Ahead of target

Most important keywords reached page one in three months. By month five, traffic was above target for most sites.

The full story

National Government Business Programme, in plain words

The government ran a programme to help business owners promote themselves online and grow their sales over the web. We were chosen as its SEO partner, and the programme covered more than 500 websites. We were honoured, and we felt a big responsibility to deserve that trust.

None of these websites had done any SEO or digital marketing before. That meant their online success depended on the results we delivered. There was a hard deadline too: any site that missed its ranking and traffic targets within six months would lose further government support.

We started on every site straight away, with a plan for each one. Most of the important keywords reached page one within three months, and 70 to 80 percent reached the top 3 by month five. Traffic was above the agreed targets for most sites by then, and we helped the businesses set new goals to keep growing.

The problem

What stood in the way

1

A blank start

The sites had no earlier SEO, so they had no standing in Google to build on.

2

A plan for every site

Each of the 500+ sites needed its own approach, not one plan copied across all of them.

3

A six-month deadline

Sites that missed their ranking and traffic targets in six months would lose extra government support.

4

Sheer volume

Getting the strategy right for so many sites was hard, but it was essential.

Every result, at a glance

What the programme delivered

500+

business websites were included in one government programme.

3 months

Most of the important keywords reached page one of Google within the first three months.

70 to 80%

of keywords reached the top 3 positions by the fifth month.

Above target

By the fifth month, traffic was above the agreed targets for most campaigns.

New goals

Once the first targets were met, we helped the businesses set new goals to keep growing.

How we did it

Four steps, for every site

Set clear targets

Ranking and traffic targets for each site, agreed at the start.Everyone knows what success looks like.

Chose the right mix of searches

Short, medium and long searches, matched to what each site could realistically win.Pick the battles you can win first.

Fixed and rebuilt the sites

Technical fixes, page titles, web addresses, breadcrumbs, content, internal links and new, easy navigation.Like putting clear signs on every aisle of a shop.

Got trusted sites to link to them

Outreach for the important pages of each site, based on top competitors.Online word of mouth. The more trusted sites mention you, the more Google and AI trust you.

Everything we did for each site

  • Agreed ranking and traffic targets for every site at the start
  • Chose a mix of short, medium and long searches that each site had a real chance of winning
  • Ran a detailed check to find and fix technical problems
  • Improved page titles and descriptions, web addresses and breadcrumbs (The trail showing where you are on a site)
  • Improved existing content and added fresh content for the chosen keywords
  • Linked pages to each other so visitors and Google could move easily between them
  • Designed a new, easy-to-use site structure for almost every site
  • Studied the top competitors for each keyword, and got quality sites to link to the important pages
  • Worked on building each brand’s name, to bring visitors searching for the business itself
Why it worked

What other business owners can take from this

Set targets before you start

Clear goals for rankings and traffic meant everyone could see whether the work was succeeding.

Match the search to the website

Each site went after the searches it could realistically win, rather than all the hardest ones at once.

Fix the structure, not just the words

Most sites needed a better layout and navigation, which made every other improvement work harder.

What this means for your business

When your growth depends on hitting a target, you need a team that plans every step and reports on every one.

We run SEO for single businesses and for groups of websites, in Asia, Australia, the UK, the US and the Middle East.

  • Clear targets agreed at the start
